The Child Protection Centre is a direct administration institution under the supervision of the Minister of Welfare, operating in the field of child protection. The institution was established in 2005 and for almost twenty years functioned under the name “State Inspectorate for Protection of Children’s Rights.” The main functions and tasks of the State Inspectorate for Protection of Children’s Rights were to monitor and control compliance with the Law on the Protection of the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and other regulatory enactments governing child protection, as well as to carry out supervision of orphan’s courts and provide them with methodological assistance.

With the transformation into the CPC, the range of its functions and tasks has significantly expanded, turning it into a supportive institution for children and young people, as well as for professionals. While maintaining and developing the child rights protection supervision function, the Trust Line, the interinstitutional cooperation programme “Barnahouse,” and several other functions, the CPC plays an essential role in supporting children, families, and professionals working with children, as well as in safeguarding children’s interests. The institution’s position within the child protection system has also evolved – from cooperation within its competence to needs-based governance of the child protection field.
