The purpose of guidelines is to provide a clear explanation of the child’s right to privacy for a wide range of child care providers – including parents, legal guardians, and professionals from various sectors involved in child protection – and to raise awareness of this right within the broader context of child rights protection in society.

The guidelines include six main headings:

1.  International and National Legal Framework

2.  Explanation of Key Terms and Definitions

3.  Personal Data and Its Protection

4.  The Right to One’s Image

5.  Digital Privacy and Its Protection

6.  On the Protection of the Child’s Privacy – Guidance for Professionals

A vast amount of personal data is collected and stored in the virtual environment. In their everyday communication, individuals exchange information online — including personal data — often without being fully aware of the potential risks and consequences related to the further use of such data.

The public disclosure of private and family life in the digital environment raises important discussions concerning threats to privacy. The protection of the right to privacy faces challenges both within the legislative framework and in daily practice. Digital privacy has become an increasingly important aspect of the broader discourse on the inviolability of private life.

It is particularly important to educate children and adolescents about their online behaviour and their right to privacy. These rights must also be recognised and upheld by everyone involved in the care and upbringing of children.
